we do use the AMXbans. but i think only uncle sammy has access to amxbans through internet explorer. he can actually ban anyone from the servers outside of CS.

Ummm, OK...the usualy method is that when a ban is entered on the server via amx_ban user duration reason, it gets intered in a viewable page...the banner/banee can then reference the ban ID number in forums to discuss.

The page also has a limited access (usually done in game) for the admin to add and remove bans via the website.

The nice thing is that mortals don't have access to edit the page, so who, what, where, when and why are all recorded instantly, and the bans carry to all servers in a group....anyway, yeah, maybe it's being used in the background.

that wont even work if beginners server is included. we would need to have 2 groups for it, 1 for beginners server and 1 for the rest.

If you are going to ask me "why's that", i'll tell you why. I used to be admin for another community over 2 years ago and the community used amx_bans and was set-up to ban anyone from all servers in one shot.

If beginners was included in a group and if an admin ban an too skilled player permanently, then they're banned from all servers. Get it?

I don't know what's up with the tone of your last, maybe it's just me.

I understand these kind of things well, I run a 1/2 dozen sites for people spending a lot of time modifying tweaking php and sql.

So, anyway, the for the objections, there are 3 options:

A) Don't include beginners at all, just the other servers.
B) Edit the table names in sql.ini and run 2 copies, one for beginners, one for everyone else.
C) Do nothing. Sammy likes it like it is.

I almost forgot to add that we would need a third group just for scrim server just to ban anyone who left scrim early and didnt notify the host of scrim.

We do bans on different time frames ie ...1 week ... 1 month ... perm

and we do them to each server accordingly.


Yes it would be easier to ban once and have it run through ALL servers, but like slicky said ... doesn't work for some servers bc due to the offense, it's only carried on that server.

Plus temp bans aren't great. Ban 1 week with the timer ... the next day the server gets rebooted ... the ban gets deleted and the guy who should have been gone for 7 days, gets early probation because of a server boot.


I like the way it is. Because i make ALL bans perm, and I go back and unban when time is up. It's more work... YES ... but more efficient.

Yeah, well, I know that text communication can really alter the tone since all those inflection, etc ., don't come across, so try not to jump in and be reactionary.

So, like you said, it's just a suggestion. FWIW, AMXBANs doesn't rely on the servers timed bans, when someone joins, it compares their steamID to an SQL database and enforces the ban or lets them in, reboots, etc won't wipe them out.
