What is ledging?

Post by Belcross » Sat Aug 08, 2009 9:25 pm

Ledging is being on a place that you're not supposed to, i.e on top of a wall that allows you to see over it. This is only achieved in the wc3 server where different races/power buffs could allow you to reach certain places that are not accessible in the regular game.

I also consider this map exploiting/cheating as you're able to see your opponent through the wall, literally.

So if you happen to find yourself up here

Get down before you get banhammered!

So what is allowed? Well most places are allowed as long as they do not give you an incredibly unfair advantage over the other team, such as being able to see through walls.

For example, the same map has a lower ledge that can be used:

Crates and other lower places are allowed as well. However, if an admin asks you to get down/out then do so or you will find yourself in the banland!

If you're unsure about a certain spot then ask the admin what is/what is not allowed. If no admin is around just take a screenshot and ask us!

If you're in an area that doesn't give vision like you're screenshot describes, but an admin tells us to get down from (x), as long as we comply, assuming the spot is legitimate, the specific admin just doesn't like it, we won't be banned correct?

If the admin tells you to get down, get down.
Then talk to him personally about the manner about ledging in that specific spot.

I think we should compile a list of common locations that are often debated and have something official. I know I am tired of hearing one thing from one person and something else from another.

Examples:

http://yfrog.com/j7deinferno0000ep" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://yfrog.com/j9deinferno0001yp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Neither of those provide significant (exploitative) advantage over another player. In fact the upper ledge one actually requires the player to crouch, causing them to be immobile if shot. They are both legal in leagues, as well. The 40cal Inferno map has spots humans can teleport on roofs, too. I have seen some admins complain, and I have seen other admins take part in the act.

http://yfrog.com/emdedust20000rlp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see over the ledge if you jump and choose to abuse it.

http://yfrog.com/j9dedust20001rcp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Similar case.

http://yfrog.com/5bdedust20002sp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Similar case but unable to be abused even if they wanted to.

http://yfrog.com/j9dedust240cal0000p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://yfrog.com/5cdedust240cal0001p" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Both spots allow you to see over the B wall to see people at the room above cat, but you aren't seeing THROUGH any walls. I would argue you should be able to see over that wall, anyway. That's like saying looking over a fence is wall hacking. And even still you can't really even see over the wall into those windows anyway (I've never even noticed you could until I took that 2nd screenshot)

I'm glad I came across this.

It seems the general consensus among the population that plays there is that any time you're on a roof or a ledge, it is in violation of the "ledging" rule. This thread cleared things up nicely. I'll pass on the information or just direct the players to these forums for clarification.

I am glad we have this thread up as well. I'm tired of arguing with people in the game about this topic.

personally, to me, if you are on a ledge, you're most likely holding up the game by camping and not completing your objective.

i agree with sizzlin, generally, humans just go up onto ledges and camp all round, so i dont see the benefit.

I have a question. Is this considered ledging?

I was kind of expecting a bit more detailed answer than yes ... like reasons why this spot is/isn't considered ledging ...
