if you want to view certain parts you can do viewdemo instead of playdemo. there are options to slow down gameplay forward rewind etc.

walk, peek every corner, listen to footsteps closely(if you have 7.1 surroundsounds)(5.1 works too)slow down the rush lol. I usually die instantly too if I don't pay attention to any one of those.

Even if you don't have the userconfig.cfg. It will not pose a problem to you at all. It is just a replica of your config.cfg. Think of it as a copy of your config.cfg. If you don't have it, it is okay.
